ERW Mill Specialist Apprentice Steel Pipe Birmingham, AL, USA $38.17 Hourly Full TimeAs an Electronic Resistance Welding (ERW) Mill Specialist Apprentice at AMERICAN, you will undergo hands-on training to develop the skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain our pipe mill in our Steel pipe department. We are seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals who are eager to learn and build a career in manufacturing. You will learn to monitor and control steel forming and steel welding processes to ensure efficient and accurate production. This position is designed to provide hands-on training and an opportunity to grow within the steel manufacturing industry. Ideal Candidate:Experience: Experience in ERW pipe/tube mill, steel mill, roll forming machine, mechanical maintenance, machinist, welding, or pneumatics. Manufacturing background highly desired.Desire to Learn: Must be willing to sign an agreement to successfully complete a Penn-Foster curriculum approved by the Department Head. Exhibit the ability to learn how to read Mill set-up blueprints.Mechanical Aptitude: Proficient with measuring tape, measuring instruments, and hand tools to change rollers, inserts, and other tooling as necessary. Hand weld open seams as necessary to prevent damage to equipment.Basic Math and Technical Skills: Understand and use basic mathematics, including addition and subtraction of fractions and converting fractions to decimals. Read and write legibly.Attention to Detail: Accurately record machine settings, adjustments, and analyze problems as they arise. Control weld quality by adjusting heat control, mill speed and tooling settings. Maintain and adjust weld trim and contacts.Reliability: Operate mill sections (forming, fin pass, welder, etc.). Ensure these sections are properly set-up to operational standards, and proper records are being maintained. Be proactive in trouble shooting issues as they arise.Team Player: Maintain good working relationships with mill supervision, ERW Mill Specialist, and Quality Assurance. Assist during mill changes, setup, and breakdowns. Committed to attendance and punctuality.Initiative: Maintains a high level of performance under pressure. Self-starter willing to take action with a high drive for results. Actively engages in problem-solving without prompting.
