⚐ ⚑ ⚑ Ethical Yarn Community (Member Co-op) Seeks Apprentice (South Burlingame, Portland) ‹ image 1 of 5 › Terwilliger near Troy no pay Ethical Yarn Community is a burgeoning, queer-friendly fiber mill co-op and community school with aims of being completely eco-friendly and treating all animals well in our yarn-creation process. This is all happening inside a two-car garage, but we have enough equipment to be hand-processing yarn from start to finish with a few larger pieces of equipment to help. The apprentice period is about three months (or approximately 24 total hours). The mill runs on Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m. We are looking for people interested in fiber arts (no experience necessary) who are not afraid to get their hands dirty and can commute to SW Portland/Burlingame. During the apprenticeship, you will learn: • Handspinning (wheel provided) • Fiber prep (skirting, washing, picking, tumbling, carding, roving, etc.) • Crochet/knitting (optional) • How to care for an angora rabbit • Mill equipment maintenance and care (cottage size and smaller) • Collaborating in community! If the apprentice period goes well and you are voted in by the rest of the co-op, you will have the option to stay on as a “member-producer,” which means you will get a of the mill profits. Please note that member-producers currently only make $20-100 a year. This is a passion project for now! However, you also get access to rental equipment, skill development, and a fun fiber community in the process. Once you are trained, you get to choose which tasks you want to tackle most. More info: If you are interested, please answer the following questions in an email (max one paragraph each): Can you be at the mill most Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m.? Why are you interested in fiber, yarn, and fiber processing? What’s your experience and interest in sustainability practices? Are you comfortable working in LGBTQ+ and brave spaces? Are you comfortable working with animals and animal fiber, even when it is dirty and greasy? Do you have pets? If so, what’s your philosophy for caring for them? Do you experience with pop-up markets, marketing, photography, or another skill that you would be excited to bring to the mill? post id: 7842898011 ♥ [ ]
