Installs wires, conduits, and signaling units following blueprints of electrical layouts and signaling systems. May work sometimes in difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high left equipment, working in crawl spaces above ceilings, etc. Must be able to adhere to safety guidelines at all times. May use a variety of hand or power tools. Working Conditions: The work in this trade is done both indoors and outdoors, in existing and newly constructed buildings, in residential and commercial structures, and in all kinds of weather around noise, mud, and debris. Individuals in this trade often work in cramped areas and in awkward positions. Work Processes: This is a 6,000 on-the-job hours (approximately 3 years) training program. Apprenticeship consists of both on-the-job training and related classroom training. Classes are held through Lane Community College (fall, winter and spring terms). Satisfactory progress must be maintained in related training classes in order to remain in the apprenticeship program. It is the responsibility of the apprentice to pay for all tuition costs and books associated with their program. Wage Schedule: The average wage for those journey workers employed by the participating employers in the occupation as of August 1, 2024, is $36.56 per hour.
