This position is responsible for routine preventive maintenance of equipment, learning to maintain production equipment, performing shop duties, and construction projects as required. This position is training to become a maintenance technician. Receive Assignment From: Technical Maintenance Supervisor Production Manager Essential Duties and Responsibilities: · Shadow and learn from maintenance techs to perform regular and preventive maintenance on dust collector, mixers, extruders, gearboxes, equipment, rollers and bearings, and other facility repairs. · Assures absolute safety of working conditions and environment while performing housekeeping tasks. · Be available for training on troubleshooting to determine simple electrical problems · Responsible to perform other duties and activities as directed Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. · High school graduate or GED recipient with 1-3 years maintenance experience · Must have some familiarity with blueprints and schematics. · Reasonably developed mechanical/electrical background desired. · Must be willing to expand current knowledge by possibly attending training programs both locally and possibly will include some travel · Ability to perform the physical aspects of maintenance work o Continuous standing, occasional bending o Ability to operate moving fork trucks and scissor lifts o Climbing ladders up to 50 feet o Occasional overhead lifting o Occasional lifting up to 100 lbs. knee to waist o Working with temperatures in excess of 500 degrees o Vision ability including close, distance, and peripheral · The maintenance apprentice must be willing to be promoted into a maintenance technician role on whatever shift an opening occurs, day or night, whenever an opening becomes available.
