POSITION SUMMARY: The Nurse Apprentice program is designed to help the student nurse grow and develop as a true professional. Purpose: To experience a realistic working environment; To gain experience in an employment situation; To help the student familiarize themselves to the hospital environment; To provide opportunities for interaction with physicians and other healthcare providers; and To expand clinical knowledge and skills. The Nurse Apprentice performs basic patient care by assisting in the treatment and care of patients under the direct supervision of such designated registered nurse Preceptor on a 1:1 ratio basis, while DHR Health ensures that scheduled clinical objectives align to subject/content to meet scheduled program didactic/clinical requirements at the Related Training Instruction’s location. POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED required. Currently accepted and enrolled in the ADN program at an accredited nursing school. Current student, in good standing, with an acceptance letter into an RN program at an accredited school. Must maintain good standing in an accredited nursing program. BLS Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) required. Good written and verbal communication skills required. JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all ages and sizes. Responsibilities: POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices. Activities of Daily Living for patients. Procedures performed according to level of school and competency training- examples are collecting specimens, oxygen therapy, dressing changes, wound irrigations, colostomy care, urinary catheterization and irrigation, tracheostomy care, oral, nasal suctioning, isolation procedures, and heating-cooling blankets. Transports, positions and drapes patients for exams and treatments. Assists patients in ambulating. Takes and records vital signs, weights and I & O. Passes and collects bed pans. Changes bed linens. Provides encouragement, support and comfort to patients and family members. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems. Provides age and culturally appropriate care. Comply with mandatory education modules Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise.
