Working Hours and/or Working Conditions
Usual office conditions. Require local travel and travel between campuses May be required to work some evenings and Saturdays.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to communicate effectively with widely diverse populations. Capable of motivating and encouraging others and demonstrating positive role modeling through mentoring and coaching. Must be able to work independently and as a member of a project team Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple activities. Must have knowledge of and proficiency with personal computers in a MS Windows environment. Ability to input data and provide accurate reports and information for record keeping and statistics.
Supervision
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Dean of Business, IT and Culinary. Takes direction from DITC Administrators and Apprentice Navigator. SUPERVISION GIVEN: None
Job Function
Oversees successful placement and completion of apprenticeships and any other external practical experience related to student learning. Works with the Apprentice Navigator to recruit workforce and continuing education students for placement. Assists in providing support services to ensure student success.
Job Responsibilities
Provides instruction on readiness for internships and apprenticeships in coordination with faculty.
Under the direction of the Apprentice Navigator, collaborates with external partners in Macomb County to promote and coordinate apprenticeships.
Collects pre- and post-required student internship/apprenticeship documentation.
Places students in internship/apprenticeships and monitors progress ensuring successful completion.
Conducts internship/apprenticeship site visits for student and mentor supervision.
Oversees student internship/apprenticeship progress and serves as the liaison between the college and the site mentor supervisors.
Provides resources for remediation in collaboration with or without faculty, and/or services to overcome barriers to successful completion.
Conducts interviews to assess placement effectiveness for continuous improvement.
Collaborates with staff and faculty to track student licensure or certifications.
Maintains records and produces reports relating to student progress and successful program completion.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of three years’ experience in higher education program support preferred.
