As a Shop Assistant at Instinctive Metals (IM), you will play a crucial role in our fabrication operations. Your primary responsibility will be to support the fabrication team in producing high-quality sheet metal components used in commercial and residential construction projects. You will work under the guidance of experienced fabricators to learn and contribute to the manufacturing process. Primary Responsibilities: Assist with cutting (shearing), folding (braking), and forming sheet metal components according to blueprints and job specifications. Handle material inventory, ensuring accurate tracking and organization of materials used in production. Operate machinery and equipment such as shears, brakes, and forklifts safely and effectively. Support packaging and shipping operations, ensuring products are prepared for delivery in accordance with customer requirements. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety protocols and best practices in metal fabrication. Learn and apply basic skills in blueprint reading and interpreting job orders to assist in the fabrication process. Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines and quality standards. Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance your skills in metal fabrication techniques. Requirements: Strong work ethic and commitment to learning the sheet metal fabrication process. Reliable transportation and valid drivers license. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from senior fabricators. Basic understanding of construction or metalworking concepts preferred. Proficiency in using measuring tools such as tape measures and calipers. Willingness to operate machinery and equipment under supervision after appropriate training. Detail-oriented with a focus on producing high-quality work and ensuring accuracy in tasks. Ability to lift and move materials as needed, adhering to safety guidelines. Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in sheet metal fabrication or a related field is beneficial but not required. Familiarity with HVAC ducting or other metalworking industries. Completion of vocational training or coursework in metal fabrication or a related technical field. Certification in forklift operation or willingness to obtain certification. Additional Notes: This role may involve exposure to loud noises, machinery, and varying temperatures typical of a manufacturing environment. Safety training and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
