Technical Director 4.9 4.9 out of 5 stars 3828 Main St, Kansas City, MO 64111 OUR MISSION Unicorn Theatre develops and produces new, boundary-breaking theatrical work that sparks dialogue, champions inclusivity, and cultivates community. OUR VISION Striving to be a welcome space for all, Unicorn Theatre aims to be the preeminent home for new theatrical work in United States. OUR VALUES Provocation Guts Mentorship Acceptance Community OUR ANTI RACIST STATEMENT As a theatre company with a predominantly white staff and board, Unicorn commits to serve as an ally to communities of color. We know that formal, institutionalized statements offering solidarity without accountability are not enough and have the potential to do further harm. Therefore we commit to the following steps: We will continue to program stories that illuminate social issues, highlighting diversity and inclusive stories which include race, religion, and gender identity. We will include more BIPOC voices on our board and staff and we will seek out resources beyond our current scope to achieve this goal. We will increase percentage of employment of BIPOC artists and technicians. We will create and secure funding for an apprenticeship program to bring young local BIPOC to the Unicorn who are seeking additional experience in Administrative and production work. We will promote an environment that actively works against racism, harassment, discrimination and white supremacy. We will begin board and staff anti-racism learning and we will seek professional outside support in the future. We will examine where we spend our dollars with outside vendors and seek out partners who are also committed to anti-racist practices and accountability. We commit to listening to and learning from communities of color and calling ourselves out as we discover where we are not doing and have not been doing enough. We acknowledge that these commitments need to be measurable and have timelines associated with them. We will review these goals regularly and hope to have made significant progress on these goals in the next 13-18 months depending on when live theatre can resume. We acknowledge that Unicorn Theatre is on the unceded land of the Kickapoo, Osage, Kaw, and Sioux peoples. We acknowledge their elders both past and present, as well as future generations. Unicorn Theatre also acknowledges that it was founded upon exclusions and erasures of many Indigenous peoples, including those on whose land this institution is located. Kansas City Missouri is also on land where enslaved Africans have lived and been subjugated to free labor. This acknowledgement is part of our commitment to beginning the process of working to dismantle the ongoing legacies of settler colonialism.
