You can learn more about this revolutionary model here: https://www.actonacademy.org/ Brief Job Description: We’re looking for a full-time Apprentice Guide to oversee a mixed-age studio (classroom) ages 7 to 12. In their day-to-day role, the Apprentice Guide engages with the students, guides their learning, and helps to create an environment where learning is an adventure and every child is a hero on a journey. This role also includes planning learning activities, documenting processes, and communicating with parents. The ideal candidate embraces new challenges and eagerly receives feedback as a tool to learn and grow. Qualifications: Lifelong learner: Maintains a posture of curiosity Growth mindset: Welcomes feedback and is eager to learn and grown Self-starter: Takes on new initiatives, is comfortable with some ambiguity, and has the courage to experiment, try new things, and make mistakes Team oriented: Embraces opportunities for teamwork and collaboration Work ethic: Professionals who are willing to work in a year-round program (with time off for holidays; and flexible hours during student breaks) Experience working with children ages 7 to 12. A deep respect for children and empathy for the challenges they face A belief that healthy struggles are how we all grow Bachelor’s degree preferred Montessori training is a plus Guide Responsibilities: Training: Complete Acton guide training and ongoing professional development to deepen understanding of the Acton philosophy Observe, mentor, and guide students in a self-governing, project-based learning environment Develop and implement individualized lesson plans, independent learning exercises, and curricula. Foster a safe, clean, and stimulating environment where all students feel valued Build strong, trust-based relationships with students Set an exemplary standard for students, modeling values like honesty, accountability, respect, and kindness Monitor student progress and provide written reports Maintain classroom supplies and equipment Handle administrative tasks, including updating records on the school database Participate in school activities and accompany students on field trips Serve as a Socratic educator, facilitating inquiry-based learning Location: Invictus: An Acton Academy, Liberty Hill, TX Benefits: Competitive salary based on experience Meaningful work At Invictus you have the opportunity to make a difference in a community-oriented environment. Ample built-in time off for holidays and flexible hours during frequent school breaks The school is closed approximately seventy-five days per year. Some of this time is used for administrative work and team planning, but much of it is available for our team to rest and recharge before embarking on new topics with their studio. As a privately run school, we’ve chosen to provide more frequent “session breaks” throughout the year in addition to a six-week summer break (rather than the three-month summer break used in public schools). Paid time off (PTO): In addition to holidays and scheduled school breaks, employees also get PTO to use during the school year. Professional development and growth opportunities: Our Apprentice Guide has the opportunity to grow swiftly and steadily into a Guide or Lead Guide as they develop their skills in the studio.
