CNC Machinists must set up, adjust and operate various types of CNC and conventional equipment to machine, cut, or grind carbon parts to the desired size and shape, including programming.
Responsibilities
- Operate multiple machines/perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Inspect and/or pack parts when it is efficient to do so or when needed. Scribe parts.
- Operator sets up and operates any or all of the following equipment in processing orders of carbon, graphite, and metal graphite products to exacting tolerances on all CNC lathes and accessories, CNC mills and accessories, CNC grinders and accessories, computer controlled automated production manufacturing machines, all conventional lathes and accessories, boring and milling machines and accessories, planers and shapers and accessories, protracting units, drilling and tapping equipment.
- Originates or improvises simple or complicated set-ups on any of the above machines as required. Calculates the most efficient feeds and speeds to operate the equipment for the particular operation(s) to be performed.
- Must be able to effectively communicate designated tooling nomenclature in requesting cutting tools.
- Must maintain effective records to support an organized, catalogued, and systematic operation of CNC or other equipment. To include: *maintenance log, *set up sheets, *tooling lists, *print outs.
- Will demonstrate and perform all fundamental and advanced machining processes using the available equipment.
- Able to perform edits, file transactions, and manual data inputs to ensure a smooth flow of machining processes in the CNC areas.
- Performs simple or complex programming of manufacturing equipment as required in support of the management programming effort.
- Effectively utilizes precision measuring instruments to ensure the end quality of the machined products.
- Performs all work assignments in a safe and workmanlike manner and to follow departmental and general company safety rules, and to practice good housekeeping.
Skills
Mechanical aptitude
Use of measurement tools including but not limited to: calipers, gauges, micrometer.
Previous manufacturing experience is a plus
Qualifications
Ability to complete all of the requirements of the Standards of Registered Apprenticeship
